About Us
Nous Fè Medical Service Organization initially started out in 2014, as a group of high school students interested in making a positive impact in the global healthcare community through serving on medical service trips coordinated by Angel Wings International (AWI), a Miami-Haiti based non-profit medical aid organization. The founding students graduated with the aim of extending this unique global health opportunity to undergraduate students, and increasing the number of service trips offered so that our clinics in Jacmel could stay staffed longer during the year. Angel Wings International currently has three distinct chapters throughout the nation, which raise awareness for Haiti, and serve on high-exposure medical service trips throughout the year. These chapters are at Northwestern University, the University of Connecticut, DeSales University, and in Cupertino High School (the founders’ high school in California).
Nous Fè Medical Service Organization is Northwestern University’s chapter. As a student organization, we aim to extend opportunities to undergraduate students to serve on medical service trips, learn more about global health, and participate in non-profit work with Angel Wings International--all with the goal of empowering the patient populations of Jacmel and improving their access to medical care.
Our Purpose
Nous Fè's purpose is to provide all interested students at Northwestern with the opportunity to engage in meaningful and sustainable global health work, through non-profit work with AWI, awareness events, and our annual medical service trips to Haiti.

About Jacmel
Jacmel is the safest city in Haiti. It is located four hours away from Port Au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, and is surrounded by mountains, forests and the ocean. The city of Jacmel is known
for its beauty as well as its poverty. As you move farther away from the main city, the lush greenery and steep cliffs are dotted with rural communities living in extreme poverty. These residents often have no means of obtaining medical care, as the journey down to the nearest hospital could take hours or even days.

Our Goals
The Nous Fè Medical Service Organization has three main goals:
-
Operate through a model of sustainable service
The Nous Fè Medical Service Organization is unique in our medical service. Unlike other volunteer trips, Nous Fè deviates from the typical voluntourism model (short trips, student shadowing, and unsustainable employment) that hinder communities rather than help.
Nous Fè aims to recruit clinicians for each trip. In a typical week, a team will see anywhere from 400-800 patients. Being able to provide continuous, specialized medical care to Jacmel for four or more weeks is much more beneficial than an isolated one week trip (with only 3-4 days of medical service), and establishes the crucial notion of “continuity of care”, which is an often overlooked concept with many volunteer trips.
Most importantly, Nous Fè operates through a US-Haitian based organization, that uses sustainable practices like employing workers from Jacmel, and cooperating closely with the city and the country (Angel Wings International was recently recognized by the Prime Minister of Health in Haiti).
2. Accessibility for all interested undergraduates
The Nous Fè Medical Service Organization believes that connecting any interested undergraduate student, regardless of their resume, to Nous Fè's various opportunities, is much more impactful and productive to furthering global health awareness across Northwestern. Whether it be through attending awareness events, working on AWI initiatives, or serving in Jacmel, Nous Fè strongly believes that there is a place for every single interested student in global health and non-profit work.
3. Offer unique global health exposure opportunities, through a focused Northwestern-Jacmel partnership
While global health awareness is a key tenet of Nous Fè, we believe that it doesn’t make sense to try and extend our outreach to a myriad of places and have a minimal impact in each. Through a focused partnership between our organization and one country, we believe that students can learn more about global health, and make a bigger, more meaningful impact.
